I’ve heard it from other writers and experienced it for myself. It seems to apply only to some topics but Medium is now taking 5–10 days to process my stories. Some of which are about current events and have become dated before Medium ever gets to them.
I write often about politics where the news cycle can sometimes be measured in hours; not days and weeks. If Medium elects to curate a story after a week or more; it may already have passed its prime point of relevance.
We know little about Medium staffing. Is there a single person covering certain topics that may have become sick or gone on vacation? Is there too much work for one person to process. It the curator is overworked, there exists the possibility that not curating the story is the simplest way to work through the backlog.
I don’t expect an answer from Medium. Answering a question from a writer is not their way. Once, I did send an email to the contact information for Medium and actually got a response (sort of) regarding a delay. I was informed it could take up to two weeks for an answer.
I’m just writing to say, two weeks is too long. Our $5 monthly fee maybe isn’t much but a timely response doesn’t seem like it’s too much. If you need more Curators, just put out the call and I’m sure you’ll receive all you need. Thanks!
