While Lincoln may have faced threats from European bankers, he certainly faced threats throughout his Presidency and before from Southerners who detested losing their way of life. Lincoln may have set himself up by switching out his VP for separaiist Andrew Johnson. Elevating Johnson slowed Reconstruction and integration for decades.
