What good did it do to advocate the end of the international slave trade while pushing to expand the domestic slave trade? This wasn't a step toward ending slavery, it was a means to enrich himself and his fellow Virginians. Maryland and Delaware profiting was just a byproduct.

I've read the text from when he announced the act, even quoted it. While he pretended concern for the inhabitants of Africa, slaves were being beaten and raped at Monticello. Frederick Douglass called Abraham Lincoln the "white man's president." I submit the man that wrote about all men being created equal while enslaving over 600 in his lifetime and raping one for decades starting when she was 14.
