The lockdown does delay the inevitable in some respects but it also reduces the strain on our medical resources. If everyone gets the disease at the same time but the hospitals only have room for 5–10 % of those needing ventilators and oxygen, hospitals will have to choose unnecessarily who lives and who dies. Because medical personnel has to treat patients without the proper (and unavailable) Personal Protective Equipment like masks, more of them will become ill and die. You don’t have to take my word for it, the experts are all saying the same thing about “flattening the curve.”
