I have to take exception to your characterization of Black’s court record as “mixed,” and an implication that he was reluctant on civil rights.

He continued to oppose anti-lynching laws from the bench as he did while in Congress. I can point to several cases he opposed civil rights as well as others where he supported them. His record was definitely mixed, it’s a bit of a stretch to say Thurgood Marshall would have voted with him 90% of the time on the cases that came before Marshall.
