Lincoln didn’t make “the trade” illegal almost everywhere else. He made it illegal only in those states that seceded from the Union. It was made illegal by the 13th Amendment, which was ratified 7 months after his death. He clearly states he wouldn’t have made it illegal anywhere if that would preserve the Union. Not that he doesn’t deserve credit for many things, he does. He also deserves to be known for other things. Don’t we deserve to know all the history or should we let Ron DeSantis sort it out?
