I've read of James Clavell and others doing the research. Historical fiction ought to accurately reflect history, otherwise it's fantasy. The original Superman books took place in a all-white fictional Metropolis. Questionable but a possibility because who can say what Metropolis was really like. The first Marvel characters appeared in an all-white New York City. That, like Shogun, gets a penalty flag.
