It's fair to take issue with the statement Jefferson brought Hemings with him though it's clear elsewhere that Sally accompanied Polly later with a stop in London at Abigail Adam's home there. Abigail and the Captain who brought Sally across the Atlantic, both vouched for her immaturity.

When Jefferson brought him on a trip with Madison, was that a vacation ala Clarence Thomas or was he there to cook the French dishes Jefferson loved so much?

The other women in Jefferson's life were alleged to include his best friend's wife, Abigail but proof is hard to come by. Sally got noticed because she was a slave and was called out in a newspaper article, "Her Name is Sally!"

Jefferson did all he could to keep his image intact and has been helped over time by historians like Edwin Betts who covered up the beatings of teen boys in the nailery.

What I despise Jefferson for most was his role in the dramatic increase of domestic-bred slaves, a large number as a result of forced breeding and rape. He wrote Washington about being able to achieve a 4% increase in earnings if he could average a birth every two years from his female slaves and he encouraged Washington to put his money in slaves. His putting an end ti the international slave trade was a protectionist measure designed to increase profitability.

He may have been somewhere on the autism spectrum, he might have been awkward, but he was also brilliant and used his intellect to inflict pain on others for personal gain.
