I would love to know a little about your background and education that allowed you to miss so much of reality. Slavery wasn’t accidental therefore it was intentional. Farmers (perhaps you meant plantation owners who included several of our first Presidents) didn’t jettison slavery. It took a war to end slavery, even then it was more about preserving the economy than freeing slaves.
The Emancipation Proclamation was a strategy to weaken the South and keep France and Britain from aligning with the South. We know this because slaves were only freed in the states that seceded from the Union. Slave owners in the South (and North) loved having slaves. It’s what afforded them their lifestyle. Even those supposedly against slavery mostly chose not to free them during their lifetimes. Of the 60+ responses to this post, yours is by far the __________.
