I sort of disagree, having existed all my life in a variety of environments. Since the age of 5, I've mostly existed in some degree of isolation (not pockets) but an acute awareness of others like me nearby and a connection with a group not necessarily nearby. That might involve going across town to attend a Black church or social group and going several states away to attend an HBCU. We survive by connections that aren't always visible to one's neighbors.
