I respectfully disagree. SLave states (including Virginia) needed the electoral college to ensure slavery wasn’t voted out by the overall more populous free states. They were also concerned about the ability to expand slavery to other states which let to a couple of other compromises besides the Electoral College to keep slavery in play. The Missouri Compromise plus the Monroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny were all designed to make room for the growth of slavery along with the nation. I’m not alone in my assertion although I’m sure you can find opinions otherwise like those who suggest the Civil War wasn’t about slavery but state’s rights.
