I respect your opinion and could live with it were that decision reached. I've been to Charlottesville and driven by the campus of the University of Virginia and Jefferson was everywhere, not to mention their publications and advertising. I agree that students and the public shouldn't have to be bombarded with the current hero message. Critics condemn Monticello for giving a semi-accurate rendition of Jefferson's past and even acknowledging the Hemings relationship while going nowhere near the rape word. If a true history were taught of the man, I would allow for some recognition of his contribution to the university which wouldn't exist without him. Then again, neither would have the brothel staffed by mulatto "fancies" who provided an outlet for students sexual desires. I have no respect for Jefferson, but i wouldn't eliminate him completely, just mostly.
