I perhaps should have singled out the protests that spread across campuses in America. The 1968 protests in Chicago weren't campus based and were the combination of several groups combining forces which caused the whole establishment to react. In retrospect, I'm reminded of Bacon's Rebellion when multiple groups of the lower class burned Jamestown and the backlash resulted in changing the economic model of the US, turning reliance to slavery instead of indentured servitude. If Donald Trump is able to turn this to his advantage, it won't make the students wrong, it will say a lot about the ability of the media and moguls to shape the narrative.
