I imagine Procter & Gamble had a program, otherwise they wouldn't have been reaching out to HBCU campuses. Other than that it was behind the scenes and I don't know.
Southern Bell had internal groups like "Blacks in Management" which was created by Black employees and frankly more social and supportive and didn't communicate with corporate management.
There may well have been meetings and discussions at top levels of all these companies but there was no general awareness among the ranks. We had no awkwardness or discomfort because of programs, more likely because of racist coworkers and managers.
