I grew up in liberal Minnesota and in High School, we had a class called Communist State where we studied Communism. No way that class could be taught today. The highlight of the class was when we overthrew another classroom giving power to the proletariat.

We studied both the pros and cons of that economic system including a little Karl Marx. Nobody that I know of actually became a Communist after taking the class but we all learned a little something about a system we were generally being taught to fear. (We were still having drills where we got under the desk or went to an air raid shelter).
