I disagree with what appears to be your conclusion that over time the Bill of Rights and the Constitution although originally documents designed to protect slave owners, have evolved and now protect all of us.

The Constitution and all of its Amendments including the Bill of Rights are ultimately what the Supreme Court says it is. Those judges by and large still protect the male, the white, and the rich, which is how we end up with Citizens United, public funding of religious schools and a determination to control women's bodies.

Every Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act ever passed by Congress (of which there have been many) was ultimately watered down or found unconstitutional by SCOTUS. Until SCOTUS evolves, there will be no substantial change.
