I can't make the case that some of these states aren't backwards but Texas and Florida make up a decent percentage of the population. Ten states still recognize at least one confederate holiday including North Carolina (May 10th), Georgia, and Texas. Because you haven't noticed, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Juneteenth has been a federal holiday a couple of years and is usually only a day off for federal employees. It isn't that big a deal.
