I agree the incident at the doctor might not have been racist. You reached back into the 70s to recall an ambiguous situation. I reached back to the previous day, and last week for two of my examples which weren’t the only ones. Everyone without regard to color experiences situations that make them uncomfortable and possibly wonder. People of color do so almost daily. The only elongated stay without such incidents in my lifetime was the four years I attended Fisk University, ab HBCU. I had some white instructors and fellow students. I played basketball against some predominantly white teams, but felt almost no discrimination during that period.
