How Do Medium Stories Suddenly Become Ineligible To Earn Money?

I have published well over a thousand stories on Medium since my first story on July 17, 2017. It was a 2-minute read, a poem of which I am proud that I wrote to a friend. In researching this piece, I checked the stats and saw that it had 34 views over a lifetime and earned no money. It was published before the “new recommendation system,” It never earned any money because I never went back and changed the settings.

It was only 34 views and a 2-minute read. Had it been eligible, I would have earned less than a dollar in four years. I’ll accept the blame for it not being eligible, although, in a hundred lifetimes, I never would have said, “No, do not make this story eligible.”
That’s not the type of story I’m questioning right now. I’m talking about stories that were published after the current recommendation system. Those were earning money and, for some reason, suddenly stopped. Just like I would never have…
