Everyone in Congress appears to support voting rights until they don’t. Either it’s a sham or they perceive the political cost to themselves is too high. I suspect the John Lewis Act will either get watered down or not pass at all. This is a problem that could easily be fixed in terms of language that would ensure voting rights. it won’t be because it will change political outcomes.
