By the time there was a US government, yes , whiteness was a thing. It wasn't when America was first colonized. It took Black enslaved people, Black indentured servants, and white indentured servants joining forces during Bacon's Rebellion to make whiteness a necessity to pit those forces against each other. That was 1676-77.

I didn't suggest Jewish people were not white in 1790. I said they were not originally white. Every group mentioned achieved whiteness on their own timeline. The Irish for example when they were needed to police the other immigrants.
